Member Webinar: "Hispanic Patient Population Barriers & Acculturation in a Free Clinic Setting"

Join the NAFC for a special presentation on the barriers facing Hispanic patients in the Free Clinic setting and how the Edward R. Leahy Jr. Clinic for the Uninsured has been able to tackle such barriers.

Investigations using acculturation measures have reported elevated type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, hypertension, some cancers and depression risk with increased acculturation. Implicated in this relationship are higher obesity rates and related lifestyle changes presumably resulting from increased exposure to American culture. This webinar will discuss the lifestyle factors associated with the development of these diseases as result of acculturation in Hispanic immigrants and the barriers for a healthy lifestyle. Some of the barriers that will be presented are language, dietary patterns, healthcare access and utilization, financial constraints, psychosocial mediators, and personal behaviors, beliefs, and perceptions.

*This webinar presentation is FREE for NAFC Members in good standing. If you are not a member of the NAFC or if you have any questions, please feel free to email our Director of Outreach, Ariana Gordillo at
