Dental Hygienist & Oral Health Case Manager

Founded in Barre in 1994, the People’s Health & Wellness Clinic (PHWC) provides primary medical care, health education, bodywork, mental health counseling, and oral health care to uninsured and underinsured residents of Central Vermont.

Position(s) Summary: PHWC is seeking a part time Dental Hygienist and a part time Oral Health Case Manager. Positions may be filled by one or two qualified applicants. Jointly, these positions are responsible for the implementation and coordination of PHWC's oral health program, including providing patient care and coordination with community dental providers. Reports to the Executive Director, and all patient dental work supervised by the Dental Director. Combined, these positions total up to 24 hours per week, approximately two days of hygiene and one day of case management. Salary commensurate with experience. Dental Hygienist:

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide direct dental hygiene services for Clinic patients, as pertains to the Vermont Dental Hygienist statutes
  • Provide basic oral health instruction/prevention education for all Clinic patients
  • Interface with PHWC Nurse Case Manager to see that all new patients’ are assessedl

Qualifications, experience, and skills

  • Current Vermont Dental Hygienist license in good standing
  • BLS or equivalent CPR certification and all CEUs up to date for licensure
  • At least 3 years of dental hygiene experience
  • Experience in a public health setting preferred

 

Oral Health Case Manager:

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Interface with PHWC Nurse Case Manager to see that all new patients’ dental needs are assessed
  • Triage patients to the most appropriate community provider
  • Obtain educational materials (e.g. brochures, videos, displays) for Clinic
  • Consistently solicit free materials and supplies for Clinic waiting room and to promote oral health in all Clinic patients, including such items as toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, fluoride rinses, and pink disclosing tablets
  • Assist in recruitment of new dentist volunteers
  • Act as liaison with community dentists who receive our patients by referral
  • Assist in marketing of Clinic oral health activities, including providing written material for outreach newsletters and electronic communications, and other initiatives to help build and grow the Clinic's oral health program

Qualifications, experience, and skills

  • Current Vermont Dental Hygienist license in good standing
  • BLS or equivalent CPR certification and all CEUs up to date for licensure
  • Experience in a public health setting preferred
  • Well organized, creative, and able to manage competing demands
  • Existing relationships with the Central Vermont dental community, or willingness to build such relationships
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of portable dental equipment repairs helpful, but not required
